The Institute of Natural BIO Industry for Namwon (NBN) is a public research and industrial support institute headquartered in Namwon, Jeonbuk Province, South Korea. Established in 2014 and renamed in 2023, NBN supports a regionally specialized bio-economy built on natural biomaterials - the key ingredients of the Green, Blue, and Red bio ecosystems.

NBN operates four divisions and nine teams with a staff of 29, 82 percent of whom hold either M.S. or Ph.D. degrees. The institute integrates bio R&BD, analysis and quality assurance, and strategic planning in collaboration with universities, research institutes, companies, and the local government. Its core R&D activities focus on cosmetics technology and innovation, insect biotechnology, and data-driven precision cultivation and processing of bio-crops.

NBN's missions are 1) to translate these strengths into regional competitiveness by supporting the cosmetics, medi-food and pharmaceutical value chains from discovery through industrialization and 2) to innovate their bio-ecosystems from agricultural, livestock and marine bioresources and expand into global business by bridging the gaps between suppliers, customers and market.

NBN provides end-to-end infrastructure, including a natural raw-material processing facility certified to EFfCI GMP standards, a cGMP- and ISO 22716-compliant final-product manufacturing line, business incubation space, and a full cycle of technical services for SMEs - covering pilot production, scale-up support, and certification/validation.

Two major expansions are underway:
1. the BioTesting Center, which will perform official cosmetics analyses and clinical trials (opening in 2026), and
2. the Biomaterials Convergence Center, which will develop cultivation and processing technologies (opening in 2027).

These new platforms will enable collaborative global projects by providing traceable natural ingredients, process and product development, and validated testing capacity - all aimed at accelerating bio-SME growth and international partnerships.
